Updates on creations. [02 Dec 2007|09:29pm]
[ mood | contemplative ]

These notes are more for myself than anything, I like to keep logs of what I'm doing.

Fairys = none made this year. I have not had the inner peace needed to make the wee fae creatures. I haven't had the inner vision or spark of passion to create any polymer creatures. Maybe 2008 will be better.

Earrings = slow going. I have orders stacked up and I don't feel like doing them. I will change this soon, it's time I got some made. I have repeat clients asking for new stuff.

Magnets = bingo!

It's holiday time once again and I've got the magnets up and running full force on ebay.
So far the season is starting out with a bang. Selling very well my first week of business this season.

New prospects in my future. Coworkers have seen my creations and have items in mind.
This is going to sound morbid, and I agree it is a bit off color, but I'm now in the business of doing funeral magnets.
What a concept, eh?

I've set up several templates, I've already printed out samples and shown the client dozens of fonts and pictures.
Her mom is going to pass away very soon and this lady wants her mom to be remembered with something more than a pamphlet handed out at a funeral, she wants her mom's favoriite saying to be put on a magnet and the name, nicknames, etc. She got teary-eyed while talking about her ailing mother and placing the order and I was very VERY sympathetic to her needs and her feelings. I gave her a bit of a discount (the discount I reserve for family members) because of the nature of this project. I feel horrible she's losing her mum but I also like the idea of having a memento to hang on the

EDIT
(Dingos ate my post ending. I meant to say memento to hang on the fridge)

Beading [21 Jun 2007|08:10pm]
[ mood | wistful ]

Every once in awhile the urge to create jewelry hits me again and I break out the entire load of stuff and settle down for a few hours of creating. This time I sat down with my mom and taught her how to make earrings and necklaces. She's now hooked on it and has been doing it at home and selling them.

During this session I made a set for myself to go with a few outfits for work. This is my first time working with wire and lobster claws on bracelets. I am still learning but I did alright. I'm going to redo the bottom of the necklace and put a large Oriental bead on there.

I wish I had more time for crafting. I have so many ideas and now I'm getting in the mood to make more fairys but I just don't have the time.

Never, ever, get cocky again about proof-reading.

ALWAYS PROOF YOUR WEDDING COMMISIONS

I have to reprint the ENTIRE wedding order for Ryan and Jessica, this is what I get for not double checking the final cut.

Newest magnet creations. [03 Aug 2006|08:43pm]
[ mood | creative ]

A beautiful memento of a soon-to-be magical wedding done all in celestial style.

Commisioned order.

If anyone is interested in purchasing magnets as wedding favours please drop me a line.
We'll work something out.
I'm not expensive, actually, I'm quite fair in price.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My creative muse has left me lately and I can't cough up a fairy to save my own wings.
By the time I get home from work I'm just too beat to make stuff. It's been a terribly busy summer around here but I'm not complaining.
I made a terrible looking fairy and he looks too much like a brownie. I'll just have to dress him accordingly, put a spear and a beer in his hands, and make him into a brownie.
progressing [13 Jun 2006|09:09pm]
[ mood | hot ]
1. Roan did not survive the arduous journey to TN. Her poor wings were shattered by the trip. I'm sending another wee fae to seal the bargain. Rest in peace, Roan. (or is that rest in pieces?) Now I know, even with proper anchoring, proper tieing down, and double boxes, the U. S. Postal service still sucks when it comes to sending something fragile. Next time I won't have them mark the box fragile.
2. New wing techniques and I've finally discovered liquid fimo. I can use the cicada wings but now I have something to make them really strong.
3. I was not happy with the frosty green leaves on Faylinn. I revamped her in some new wings.
Cicada wings. Liquid fimo. Fantasy film. and a whole lotta patience. (and good ventilation helps)
Another new technique using films and fimo.
Back to the drawing board!!!
Roan has found a new home. I've shipped her off to TN.
Faylynn is spoken for also.
It's time I started getting serious about my lovely fairy children again. I have a whole new wing technique now also. Let's see what I can come up with.
ROAN WILLOWNISH - PENDING SALE [29 Apr 2006|10:47pm]
[ mood | excited ]
I have no clue why I pick the names I do. Another new fairy was born today, her name is Roan Willownish.
Yes, she's for sale. I know I have a few interested takers already. Dydan *wink*.
Working with the Tibetan fur is frustrating sometimes. I couldn't get this stuff to work for me today. I had to beat it into submission. This fairy was just beginning and she was fighting me already. Willful sprite!
Eventually, she came together nicely. I'm still working on my form. She got a bit goopy and ran together in the oven but all in all she looks fine.
A creative Saturday [29 Apr 2006|10:39pm]
[ mood | getting tired ]
[ music | video games coming from the music room ]
Here's a mishmash of creative things I've done today and my next post will be all about the new fairy I created.
I baked some new heads. I always bake the head and then insert it into the body and bake the whole thing again.
A batch of four fairy magnets I'm making for [info]voicesinherhead's daughter, it's a house warming gift.
Another batch I'm making for my FGD, April.
I found a package of fabric leaves at the dollar store and today I cut them up into shapes and made a pair of fairy wings for a future wood sprite fairy.
I never know what I'm going to find at the dollar stores, it's full of hidden treasure if you look.
Music to create by. [29 Apr 2006|01:34pm]
[ mood | creative ]
[ music | Celtic Highway - live365 ]
Since I nixxed my chances at some overtime today I've decided to be creative instead and make a fairy. No idea if it's a girl or boy. It will have black hair and pink wings. I haven't chosen a name for it either, not until I decide what kind of fairy it will be. I should have taken a picture of the inside of my oven. Happiness is an oven full of baking fairy heads and bodys. lol!
Today I'm playing Celtic tunes. I'm tuned into an online Irish station and they are playing a great mix of soft and mystical music. It's wonderful stuff to create to. I am having so many creative thoughts today I feel as if I'm running through a field with a butterfly net, trying to capture them all.
I'll post pics of things in progress soon and then of the finished product.
So, share with me, when you are in a creative mood and working on something, what music do you create with?
I prefer chillout or Celtic. Something ambient and soft so that my mind can absorb it and incorporate it into my works.
Introducing... [14 Apr 2006|10:33pm]
[ mood | dawg tired ]
In honor of my favorite tv series I've created a little girl fairy. Her name is Claire Fisherwillow.
Needs more hair and needs some eyeballs. I'm not all that great at facial features but I'll try.
Ok, that's better. She's got greenish/blue eyes now and a lot more hair. Glue is still drying.
Here's the new wing idea I've tried out but I forgot to do one very important thing. There's no shellac on these and I REALLY needed to shellac them. Now the tips are crumbling off. Claire has crumbling wings. I'm learning from my mistakes. Isn't that the best part of the whole process?
I made a pair of pink sugar ones also for one of my next creations.
And moons, I've been making moons with hooks in them and hanging them up all over work. Some I paint. Some I glitter. Some I have left blank.
Catalog? [03 Apr 2006|05:25pm]
[ mood | creative ]
[ music | Air - Le Voyage De Penelope ]
EmoGothBoy's mom saw my celtic earrings and wants me to make a pair. I'm so happy she likes them. =D Luckily I have some leftover St. Pat's stuff.
Kenny called me last week and said I've become quite the popular jewelry artist amongst his girlfriend's circle of friends. They ooouuu and ahhhh over any new creations I send to Kat (my future daughter in law). They want me to make a catalog.
Hmmm.
I love the idea. I know I could easily do it. The lay-out is simple on WORD and I'd have no problem filling it with products but here's my problem: most of my creations are OOAK. (one of a kind) I could post pics of the things I've made and sold but will I ever be able to create them again? I don't buy beads in huge bulk. I buy enough for a few sets and then when it's gone, it's gone. The places I purchase beads from has a high turnover of staple beads. I can hardly find the same things there twice in a row.
There is a bead and gem show this weekend at the Cal Expo in Sacramento. I have free admission and I'm headed there on Saturday. I'm going to stock up on the crystals and the charms. I'll also keep my eyes open for fairy adornments.
Today I sculpted a moon. He's tiny, only 2 inches high. I'll post pics when I get a chance. Right now I'm working on that pile of laundry I neglected over the weekend.
New directions [01 Apr 2006|10:30am]
[ mood | creative ]
Just discovered some new work mediums via the forums I belong to.
A new type of sculpting clay and a new type of wing material. I won't have to purchase cicada wings any longer, I've discovered a cellophane medium that will make the utmost gorgeous wings.
I'm nervous, still, about what I'm capable of making. I can feel the urge and the creative side of me kicking in but then my self doubts kick in and squash those wonderful feelings. All the sudden I get into this "It will never work. It will be butt ugly. Nobody will ever enjoy your ugly little creations."
I'm so dumb. ha!
I'll be alright, I am my own worst enemy.
